Prayer for the family
For a marriage that is trying, a son who has stopped calling, a house where the money is short and the tempers are shorter. A prayer for the people we cannot choose and would not trade.
For a marriage
"Peace in our marriage. We are trying." That petition, posted without a name, gathered hundreds of candles. Most people praying it did not know the couple; they knew the sentence. If it is yours, you are not the only one saying it tonight.
For a child who has drifted
Parents pray for children who are far, in trouble, or simply silent. The prayer below does not ask God to change them; it asks for the door to stay open on both sides.
A prayer you can say
Lord, you chose to grow up in a family, with its noise and its worries. Bless this one: (names).
Give us patience with each other at the end of a long day. Let the money be enough, and let love be more than enough. Where there is a quarrel, send the first kind word; where there is distance, keep the door open. Keep us together, and keep us yours. Amen.
Lord, we promised in front of you, and it is hard now. Remind us why. Soften what has hardened, and give us the courage to say the small true things. Let us be gentle tonight. Amen.
How to pray it
- Pray it for the family by name, one person at a time.
- If it is about a marriage, pray it together if you can, and alone if you cannot.
- On the wall, you can post it anonymously; the candles come just the same.
